NAME:
Esther Dee

VOICE TYPE:
Soprano

WHY DID YOU START PLAYING & SINGING?
I always enjoyed dancing and from the age of four I was prancing around in a free flowing gowns to music of Tchaikowsky. A few years later it was Madonna and at 7 my parents decided to spend their hard earned cash on piano lessons, needless to say my natural ability to move to music didn't translate into being good at playing the piano. As the mischeavous, chubby cheeked 9 year old red head I played the only battered old cornet at school whilst continuing to persevere with the Piano with which I eventually admited defeat at 17. Singing in the school choir I harbored the secret desire to be the star of the show. I didn't really start exploring this compulsion til I was about 16 when I was asked to sing at the school concert. I was thrilled and terrified and my facination hasn't ceased since.

WHAT WOULD BE YOUR JOB IF NOT A MUSICIAN?
I'd want to work with horses, be a Park ranger or a holistic therapist of some kind.

DESCRIBE YOURSELF WITH 3 WORDS:
Blue galactic monkey

WHERE DO YOU SEE YOURSELF IN 10 YEARS?
In a wooden house by the sea sitting at a grand piano making music in my huge recording studio stroking my husky.

WORST HABBIT:
Daydreaming & over thinking everything

WHAT MAKES YOU LAUGH?
Emily and her rants, Pom's obssesive shuffling of papers in rehearsal.

HOW DO YOU KILL TIME ON TOUR?
Exploring, jogging, window shopping, movies and music, eating, drinking too much coffee and red wine, dancing and partying, reading tarot.

HOW DO YOU PREPARE FOR A SHOW?
I'm pretty bad at preparing, there's no elaborate vocal acrobatics, we always seem to be rushing to do sound check and frantically fumbling to transform ourselves into beautiful maidens of delight and enchantment.  It seems to work though as it doesn't leave much time for nerves!

WORST NIGHTMARE ON STAGE:
Forgetting who I am and what I'm doing.

WORST NIGHTMARE IN GENERAL:
Forgetting who I am and why I am here.

MOST EMBARRASSING MOMENT OF YOUR CAREER:
Lip-syncing on stage to a pre-recorded track and it cutting out, doh. I can't disclose the show but it wasn't with the baebes, everything you hear is live!

HIGHLIGHT OF YOUR CAREER?
I have a feeling it's yet to come although working for 3 weeks with an eclectic group of South African musicians and performing in Johannesburg stadium to 23,000 people has been pretty hard to surpass.
