Katharine Blake is mainly known for her work with the Mediaeval Baebes of which she is the founder member, main composer, arranger, musical director and producer. After attending The Purcell School of Music, Katharine’s first musical venture, Miranda Sex Garden were discovered whilst busking Elizabethan madrigals and would later transmute into an avant-garde gothic rock band. Katharine has worked with Nick Cave, Michael Nyman and John Cale as well as releasing a solo album and collaborating with Nick Marsh as the producer of his solo album and in their joint musical adventure “From the Deep”.
Marie Findley is a founding member of the Mediaeval Baebes. She studied Performing Arts at De Montfort University and went on to become an underground filmmaker, a film critic and comedy script writer. Her singing sketch for Smack the Pony, which was based on her time in the Baebes, was ranked number 22, in Channel 4’s Funniest Sketches Ever. Marie has also been Ken Russell’s leading lady in The Fall of The Louse of Usher. In addition, she has written for Ant & Dec and the Chuckle Brothers, and even got to pen the immortal words “to me, to you”.
She is currently part of another musical collective called The Aperitif, where she collaborates with former Mediaeval Baebes Ruth Galloway and Melanie Garside on obscure easy listening covers and TV soundtracks.
Sophia is a classically trained high soprano. She was a choral scholar at Queens’ College Cambridge for three years, releasing albums “For the Wings of a Dove” & “And Comes the Day”. She has sung under Sir David Willcocks, Ralph Allwood, Morten Lauridsen, Eric Whitacre and Sir Roger Norrington.
Sophia is also a singer of contemporary music and has sung and recorded with Bastille, Amber Run, Imogen Heap, Andrea Bocelli, and Public Service Broadcasting amongst others. She has been singing with the Baebes since 2016.
Anna Pool has been loving life as a Mediaeval Baebe since July 2017. When not donning a flower crown, she works as a director, writer and producer of opera and theatre and creates large-scale site-specific music events for nightclubs, warehouses, cathedrals and forests.
Originally, she studied composition at The Guildhall School of Music and Drama.
Is a Scottish singer and songwriter. She was awarded vocal and choral scholarships to St Andrews University, where she studied philosophy. Sophie joined the band in 2014, playing violin/viola and now Mediaeval fiddle, as well as singing. She also performs and records both her own songs and traditional Scots and Gaelic songs, and has collaborated with musicians from many backgrounds in Scotland, Paris and London.
Has been enjoying her time with the Mediaeval Baebes since 2012. She is a foot percussionist and an international Ceilidh / barn dance caller. She resides in a tiny boat on the canals of London enjoying her mediaeval lifestyle and is a skilled archer. This year she hopes to make a small batch of Sloe gin to enjoy in the evenings.
Kathleen trained as a cellist on the Historical Performance course at the Royal Academy of Music in London. She has since enjoyed a varied career as a freelance orchestral and session musician, focusing on period instrument performance. Her work has encompassed many different genres, including a Bollywood film soundtrack, playing live on BBC Radio 3, and filming for a recent Burberry commercial.
Kathleen was delighted to join the Baebes as a viola da gamba player and vocalist in 2017.
